Welcome note by the conference chairs

Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

It is our great honor and pleasure to welcome you to the MYK 2025 – the 58th Scientific Conference of the German-speaking Mycological Society (DMykG), taking place from 4 to 6 September 2025 in Cologne.

This year’s meeting is dedicated to a broad spectrum of timely topics in medical mycology. The scientific program spans from the application of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis of fungal infections, strategies for preventing biofilm formation, the implementation of personalized prophylactic measures, to the development of innovative therapeutic approaches, including pipeline antifungal compounds and immunotherapies – with special consideration for pediatric patients. Emerging trends in antifungal resistance and current strategies to control Candida auris will also be addressed in depth. With this, MYK 2025 offers a comprehensive overview in medical mycology –from molecular mechanisms to real-world clinical practice.

Highlights of the program include keynote lectures by the internationally renowned experts Arnaldo Colombo (São Paulo, Brazil), Arunaloke Chakrabarti (Chandigarh, India), and Ferry Hagen (Nijmegen, the Netherlands). The joint symposium hosted by the DMykG and the Netherlands Society for Medical Mycology (NVMM) will further enrich the program by offering critical insights into recent developments in medical mycology with the focus on C. auris.

We are grateful for the generous support of our industry partners, which has enabled the inclusion of dedicated symposia developed in collaboration with Basilea, Gilead, Mundipharma, Pfizer, and Shionogi. These sessions will highlight innovative, practice-oriented approaches to diagnostics and treatment in adult and pediatric patients.

Beyond the scientific program, we are pleased to offer a range of networking opportunities: a guided tour “On the Roofs of Cologne Cathedral” and a walk “Beneath the Cathedral” will provide new perspectives on Cologne’s most iconic landmark. The conference dinner will take place in a traditional Cologne brewhouse located on the banks of the River Rhine, where participants will have the opportunity to meet this year’s award recipients in an informal and convivial setting.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Scientific Committee, all contributors and speakers, our industry partners, and the organizing team at Conventus for their outstanding commitment and support.

We wish you an inspiring conference filled with new insights, fruitful discussions, and valuable connections here at MYK25 in Cologne!

With kind regards,

Danila Seidel, Oliver A. Cornely, and Rosanne Sprute
